The wettest place in England, they said…

This picture of the River Derwent shows the effects of weeks without rain at what is generally regarded as the wettest inhabited place in England. Seathwaite in Borrowdale can usually expect 3,300mm or 130 inches of rain a year but the river bed and the surrounding land was bone dry as Cumbria Life went to press.
