Music and art

Brought up in Whitehaven, John Cunningham did a degree in visual and performing arts in Brighton and went on to teach music there and in Dublin. He moved back north, to Windermere, in 2013 and works in student support at the University of Cumbria. He spends as much time as possible on his music – once described as ‘bridging the gap between Nick Drake and The Beatles’ – and on his art, last year winning a Lake Artists Society award for his pastel drawing of Orrest Head
