What better way to mark Mother’s Day than with a search to find Cumbria’s most appealing mother and baby - and a prize package worth more than £1,500?
The News & Star has teamed up with Carlisle company Piccolo, in Shaddongate – exclusive retailer for Mamas and Papas – to invite mums and their tots to bid to be Cumbria’s most iconic image of motherhood.
No other relationship is so special, more closely bonded or life affirming. No other love comes close to that of a mother for her child.
We asked mums to demonstrate their love and pride for their babies by submitting their favourite mother and baby photos to the News & Star. A public voteg will then determine the winner.
There will be one outright winner and she will receive an amazing package of generous gifts – as any extra special mother should:
- A giant photograph of our winning mother and baby will be shown on a billboard in Warwick Road, Carlisle, for two weeks – normal cost £600
- for baby there will be a Mamas and Papas Elite Range Ocean Cot Bed and mattress – priced at £680
- our special mother and her partner or friend will be dinner guests at La Pergola restaurant, Carlisle – worth £40
- prize-winning mum will be pampered to a value of £100 at Lockstock Hairdressing, Warwick Road, Carlisle
- she and a friend will be offered a four-hour pamper session and 30-minute treatment at Armathwaite Hall health and beauty spa – worth £130.
That’s a prize package with an amazing total value of £1,550.
Said Deborah Evans, manager at Piccolo, Carlisle: “It’s a great pleasure for us to celebrate motherhood in this way.
“Becoming a mother changes your perspective on everything. It alters your outlook from self to future. It’s a hugely emotional time, a little scary too. When you leave hospital with a new life in your arms, you face the daunting prospects of suddenly stepping into a great big
world with a whole new weight of responsibilities."
Piccolo is Carlisle and north Cumbria’s only exclusive retailer for the full Mamas and Papas range of nursery furniture and equipment, baby clothes, prams, buggies, gifts – and all the hundreds of necessary accoutrements that go with a new arrival.
Staff are on hand to give advice and ample car parking at the Shaddongate store means car seats and carry cots can be tested for fit and buggies and prams can be folded and tried out for simple transportation.
“There’s an airy, boutique feel to the store,” said Deborah. “The atmosphere is relaxed. Customers can take as much time as they like making those important choices. There are enough pressures in parenting – being rushed into making snap decisions isn’t one we want to add to them.”
ENTRIES HAVE CLOSED. VOTING HAS FINISHED.
The result will be announced early next week once votes have been counted and checked.
In the event of a readers’ vote tie, the judges decision will be final. No prizes are transferable. There is no cash equivalent.
